When you take your vehicle out on the road, there is always a possibility of you running into a problem that could range from a punctured tire to a minor injury. This might not sound like a big deal but it could easily turn into a disaster given you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Carrying the right tools with you can save you a lot of trouble. 

So here is the list of 7 must haves every car owner needs to carry with them.

1. Basic Toolkit

You don’t have to be a full blown mechanic to have a basic toolkit in your car yet it can save you a whole lot of time and money. While there is no standard for a basic toolkit and it might vary depending on the type of vehicle you drive. However, you might want to consider adding the following tools to your kit for basic repairs on the road;

• Screw drivers
• Assorted hex keys
• A standard socket set
• Latex gloves
• Adjustable spanner
• Wire cutter

2.Rear Camera 

Although most of the modern cars have these cameras preinstalled, if you don’t have one already, be sure to get one. While a rearview mirror only lets you see what is right behind your vehicle, a camera covers a wider area which could prevent you from crashing into something or someone that you cannot see.

3. First Aid Kit 

Whether it’s a minor cut on your finger or a headache, a first aid kit can make a real difference when you are out on the road. It’s a good idea to have it in your car at all times as you never know when you might find the need for it not just for yourself but also for fellow commuters.

4. Tire Inflator & Pressure Guage  

You are going to need to inflate your car tire after the leakage is taken care of. A tire inflator and pressure gauge don’t really cost much yet they are certainly worth investing in. From checking tire pressure at regular intervals to maintaining the optimal pressure in them, these two tools would not just help you prolong your tires’ life but also help you get to mechanic in case of a minor puncture.   

5. Windshield Cover

Leaving your car parked under the sun significantly increases the inside temperature which could damage the dashboard as well as the overall interior. Not to mention, your car becomes a hot oven after a while and the steering wheel feels like you are holding a hot iron in your hands. You can avoid it all simply by covering your windshield from the inside with a reflective cover. This is especially a must have if you live in a hot region.

6. Jumper Cables

While it’s not recommended to drive around with weak batteries, but even a perfectly fine battery could fail you due to a number of reasons. Imagine this, you walk to the parking after a long day at work only to figure that your car won’t start because your engine fan was on or because you forgot to turn off some other energy consuming unit. 

Let’s face it, it can happen to the best of us. When that happens, you are going to need to jumpstart your vehicle with jumper cables. 

7. Towing Cable  

You could be a highly skilled car mechanic yourself but you could find yourself in a situation where your vehicle has broken down and there is no other choice but to take it to a well-equipped workshop. A towing cable or chain is the only object strong enough to support the massive weight off your car. Be sure to add a quality towing chain to your must have accessories’ list especially when you are going on a long tour.
